‘Sacred Life’ sees a transition from sculptural ceramics to painting. The work explores the experience and potential of the artists body in mark making without brushes or tool, choosing to apply ochres, and pigments with her hands. Painting in this manner is used as a method of exploring the power of awareness through each cell of the body. But it is also making a larger statement; she insists on the sacred nature of our existence, of this unique experience, and the importance of living in accordance with this. Her work explores animism, the life in all things, and the removal of hierarchy for a more Taoist approach of interconnectivity and oneness. Her work honours this sacred life force which runs through all things including the land we walk. Her paintings reflect a deep connection with and respect for the land and a desperate need to conserve, respect and protect it.
